With the replacement of our 2004 Braun Chief ambulance the new committee had to look at a whole new design. With changes in the available chassis on the market, the squad thought it was best to move over to an F-series chassis. This chassis, while adding over 30″ to the overall length of the apparatus, gives us a smoother ride and an increased payload capacity. We also took the opportunity to make the ambulance a 4×4 giving more control of drive train and adding in an “air-ride” suspension. During the design process we looked at the operations of the squad and what we could do to improve ease of operations while on scene. This involved redesigning cabinets and door styles. An outside cabinet door now features a door mounted stairchair holder. The side module door is now a sliding door for increased safety on scene. With the removal of the outside battery compartment we have added near road level access to our most regularly used medical items. On the interior, we have added a temperature controlled cooler for medication storage. We have also changed the interior colors, the positioning of the captains chair and changed the interior finish to a germ resistant material making the vehicle easier to clean. The lighting is all LED both on the interior and exterior and we also added exterior cabinet emergency lighting so when the cabinets are open they are more visible to the oncoming drivers. The vehicle features our standard computerized electrical system for ease of use and instant diagnoses of faults.
This vehicle replaced a 2004 Braun Chief, which was sold at the time this vehicle was commissioned.
